Job overview

We have an opportunity for a highly driven and motivated individual to become part of the Ophthalmology Team at Southend Hospital as Junior Service Manager - Medical staffing and Rota Manager.

The role would suit an experienced supervisor/leader who is organised, a confident communicator who can work effectively as part of a team. 

You will be required to coordinate and manage the clinical Rotas, ensuring that the team provide timely reporting and expert advice to managers where staff are required to have up to date permits to work and professional registration. They will establish and maintain good practices and ensuring excellent communication and working relationships with the Recruitment and Payroll Department, and all service users.

Ensure all medical teams have the appropriate medical cover during annual intake and the changeover dates throughout the training year in order to maintain patient care.

Main duties of the job

To act as the first point of contact for all medical staff within the Directorate. To manage sickness, annual leave, study leave and special leave for all medical staff within the Directorate with input and support from all consultants and the Directorate management teams.

To co-ordinate and manage the medical staff rotas, working closely with the Workforce Business Partner and Service Unit Managers to ensure compliance with EWTD

Essential criteria
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of having worked in Medical Setting for a significant period of time
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of rostering systems and processes linked to NHS

knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a NHS workforce role including working with clinical staff
  • Previous experience of working in a Medical Staffing department
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of working with Medical and Dental Terms and conditions

Communication Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • negotiation skills: able to negotiate effectively to reach resolutions to complex issues in challenging environments.
