Main duties of the job

 

The main purpose of the chaplaincy department is to facilitate a safe, appropriate and confidential service of spiritual and religious care that enables patients, their families and friends and members of staff to explore their experience of life, death, illness, injury, change, loss or stress so that they can begin to find strength, support and meaning within it.

The post holder will be a key member of the chaplaincy team striving to fulfil this aim of providing spiritual care to patients, visitors and staff, irrespective of their religion or belief. The post holder will be responsible for patients and staff within LTHTR, and for generic spiritual care support in clinical areas under the direction of the head of service. The post holder will facilitate & deliver spiritual care to patients, carers and staff within LTHTR, as appropriate and in line with national and local best practice guidance.

The post holder will also deliver and contribute to the development of the Chaplaincy services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To visit patients and their loved ones in LTHTR, responding to referrals for spiritual, religious and pastoral care in a timely and appropriate manner

To facilitate & deliver pastoral and religious care to all staff patients/visitors, as appropriate. This includes providing religious care for others according to the wishes of the person e.g. referring to the appropriate faith chaplain when need be

  • Accredited as leader in a recognised faith community
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of the spiritual/religious needs of people of all faiths.

  • Ability to listen and provide pastoral support in difficult situations/ experiences
