Whipps Cross University Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust, is seeking a full-time Substantive Breast Consultant. Candidates should hold CCT or equivalent certification or be due to obtain CCT within the next six months. We are looking for an enthusiastic clinician with breast oncoplastic training to join our multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, and support staff in the Breast Department.
In return, this post offers an exciting opportunity to join a growing team and to develop new models of care and services that support all patients attending the hospital and within the local community. We are developing a dedicated breast cancer centre of excellence at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in the City of London.
Main duties of the job

We are developing a dedicated breast cancer centre of excellence at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in the City of London. The new centre will bring all services, including vital reconstructive surgery, together in a permanent NHS home, improving patient care and freeing up capacity for other patients at The Royal London, Newham, and Whipps Cross hospitals, so this is an exciting opportunity to play a role in developing the services and department of the future.
Your primary base will be Whipps Cross Hospital. However, there will also be a requirement for you to attend other hospitals within the Trust where appropriate for work or training.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a Licence to Practice and on the Specialist Register for General / Plastic Surgery (or within 6 months of application)
- CCT or equivalent certification CCT to be awarded within 6 months of date of interview
Desirable criteria
- Higher medical or Surgical degree
Experience
Essential criteria
- Training and experience in Breast Surgery
- Oncoplastic and reconstructive surgery experience essential
- Experience in cancer management
- Experience of working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Desirable criteria
- Research undertaken in a relevant field
- Management experience including appropriate training course
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Specialist experience and training in Breast Surgery
Desirable criteria
- Understanding of the clinical governance agenda
Skills
Essential criteria
- Evidence of leadership
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and with colleagues at different locations
- Good oral and written communications skills
- Evidence of experience in teaching and clinical/educational supervision
Other
Essential criteria
- Good knowledge of, and the ability to use, spoken and written English
- Good Knowledge of and ability to use spoken and written English
- Ability to work across sites
- Ability to present effectively to an audience, using a variety of methods to respond to questions and queries.
