Job overview

The Estates Hard FM Team is responsible for the day to day repairs, PPM and operational testing for a wide range of building services and equipment located in the Trust.

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and flexible Maintenance 
Mechanical Craftsperson (Plumber) to join our multi-Skilled Estates team at Royal London Hospital Retained Estate site providing operational 
maintenance services throughout the Trust and its associated properties and sites.

You will be a keen team member with a recognised building services mechanical/ plumbing apprenticeship or equivalent and have post qualification experience with in a complex building services environment. Duties will include statutory maintenance works as instructed to ensure compliance with current HTM’s, Water Regulations,  ACOP’s and Trust policies.

To undertake duties of a Competent Person (CP) in accordance with the relevant NHS HTM Guidance.

Also to maintain and repair cold & hot water systems & plant including calorifiers, water tanks, plate heat exchangers , air handling plant etc..

Applicants should have a good all round ability and be capable of working on their own initiative to undertake planned preventative and reactive maintenance and specialist engineering duties.
This position will require you to participate in the Estates emergency on-call rota which includes out of hours working at all Barts Health Trust sites.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will perform the role of mechanical craftsperson within the in-house mechanical maintenance team including undertaking a wide range of fault-finding and maintenance duties. He/she will be maintaining Mechanical building services, and equipment within the Trust properties. To liaise and or coordinate directly with mechanical contractors in the day to day running of the Estates service delivery within the Mile End Hospital and or Royal London Hospital Retained Estates within Barts Health Estates & Facilities Services.

Under direction of the Senior Mechanical Craftsperson and or Estates Supervisor ensure all buildings, plant and equipment are mechanically serviced and maintained throughout Mile End Hospital and or Royal London Hospital Retained Estate in accordance with Statutory & Mandatory requirements in a timely manner. Including Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and Reactive Maintenance (RM), minor works, major overhauls, and replacement. In addition, the Mechanical Craftsperson will be required to be a self-starter who is able to work on his/her own initiative.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • To have served a recognised apprenticeship in a mechanical engineering discipline or have equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Qualified with Mechanical ONC and or HNC level of education and or equivalent qualification.

Experience/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good working knowledge of preventative and reactive mechanical maintenance and associated HTM’s.
  • Experience of performing planned and reactive work within mechanical team.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of healthcare mechanical building services and previous experience of working within Estates mechanical team.
  • Knowledge of information systems for the management of maintenance activity (Concept CAFM System).
  • Understanding Standing Financial Instructions in relation to procurement and commissioning of external contracting services.
  • A good working knowledge of Health & Safety principles within mechanical engineering and building systems. Knowledge of mechanical maintenance to meet relevant HTM’s.
