CONSULTANT PAEDIATRIC ANAESTHETIST with an interest in orthopaedics and neuroanaesthesia

Applications are invited for the position of consultant paediatric anaesthetist at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. The post is for a fully trained paediatric anaesthetist, providing specialist paediatric anaesthesia to support all activity excluding cardiac anaesthesia.
The post is for 10 PAs and has 1 in 16 on-call commitment. The specialty is currently led by Dr Marina George. The department consists of 54 substantive consultants 3 joint posts with PICU CICU and CATS and 30 post-fellowship registrars and fellows.
You will be on the General Medical Council's specialist register for Anaesthetics (CCT or equivalent), or within 6 months of award of CCT by date of interview. You will have completed (or be within 6 months of completion of) a recognised training programme in paediatric anaesthesia and have extensive experience.
Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust is a postgraduate teaching hospital, linked with the Institute of Child Health (ICH). The Trust has over 300 beds and provides a comprehensive range of paediatric specialties for tertiary level care. The patient population consists of well over 192,828 admissions or outpatient appointments per year.
Main duties of the job
As a member of the anaesthetic department you will be expected to deliver specialist paediatric care throughout the perioperative period. This will include the preoperative preparation of patients, their intraoperative care and to ensure a safe postoperative environment.

Academic/Professional qualification/Training
Essential criteria
- GMC specialist registration with a Licence to Practice (obtained by designated start date)
- FRCA or equivalent
- CCT/CCST in Anaesthesia or equivalent training and experience (eligible for CESR)
- A year or more of recognised specialist paediatric anaesthesia training
Desirable criteria
- Higher degree – PhD, MD or equivalent
- Formal teaching qualification
- Management qualification or evidence of experience

- Extensive experience in Paediatric Anaesthesia
- Experience of teaching students and multi-disciplinary team

- Experience of recruiting patients to clinical research trials
