Job overview

An excellent clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery unit Practice Educator opportunity has arisen at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to join an innovative and dynamic education and training team in our Neuroscience Division.  This post will cover the main St Georges Hospital Tooting Site 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with the senior sisters, multidisciplinary team and other Trust staff to deliver education and training which is aligned to our service improvements and staff needs ensuring patients are receiving "outstanding care, every time".

Applicants must flexible and be able to work independently to meet the different training and development delivered within our Neurosciences division. The successful candidate will have current specialist knowledge and expertise and be able to demonstrate an ability to lead, facilitate and develop learning in clinical practice.

You will also deputise for other senior members of staff representing the division in meetings, staff management and day to day challenges.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Foster an environment which values education as part of the philosophy of the practice area.
  • Co-ordinate/facilitate educational activities for registered, non-registered and student nurses within the designated practice area.
  • The post holder will establish and maintain links with the various universities. Work will include post-registration course delivery and student nurse feedback/evaluation.
  • Improve the patient experience and care standards in the clinical areas.
  • Demonstrate a commitment towards the development of professional and clinical practice (self and others).
  • To ensure that patient care standards and their experience are exemplary and any poor practice is identified and action plans implemented.
  • To actively participate in campaigns related to improving the patients experience, for example Saving Lives, Quality Score Cards and Productive Ward processes.
  • To provide visible leadership and support to ensure that the highest standards of patient care is maintained.
  • To act as part of a support network for the implementation of preceptorship for newly qualified staff nurses/Overseas Nurse.
  • Be one of the recruitment leads for our Neuroscience division and represent the division in recruitment open days.

Person specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • RN – 4 years post registration experience
  • At least 2 years or more at band 6 or above level working in a Neuroscience Speciality
  • Nursing Degree and NMC registration
  • Post registration course or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Mentorship course or equivalent teaching course
  • Participation in formal and informal teaching programmes specific to disease speciality
  • Ability to communicate patient information/ education
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of own updating and academic education
  • Co-ordination of teaching programmes
