Locum Consultant in Burns & Plastic Surgery - DIEP Breast Consultant
YC73
Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantive Consultant Plastic Surgeon with subspecialty interests in microsurgical breast reconstruction to join our existing breast reconstruction service in the Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery at Manchester Foundation Trust (Wythenshawe Site).
Already one of the largest breast reconstruction centres in the UK, this fifth appointment will allow us to further expand the provision of microsurgical breast reconstruction to the population of Greater Manchester, with capacity for over 200 breast free flaps per year.
The breast reconstruction service runs five days per week through a single, dedicated theatre, and is supported by two DIEP specialist nurses and a plastics breast pathway coordinator (soon to be appointed). Opportunities exist for developing the existing risk-reducing (bilateral) surgical service and initiatives recently trialled such as two flaps per day
For further information or to discuss the role in greater detail, please contact Specialty Lead Consultant Mr James Bedford via email to [email protected] or [email protected].
Main duties of the job
This is a full time position with 10 programmed activities spread throughout the week. The appointee will deliver the following:
- 2-3 sessions of elective breast reconstruction surgery per week as part of a team job plan which allows scope for 2-surgeon operating when appropriate, at Wythenshawe Hospital
- 1 session of breast reconstruction and general plastics outpatient clinic per week
- 1 session of general anaesthetic plastic surgery general trauma per week
- 1 session of clinical admin per week
- 1.5 sessions of SPA time per week
- 1 session equivalent of on call per week
- 0.5 sessions per week for education & supervision
Please note where sessions are indicated "per week" this may be an average as some sessions may be scheduled fortnightly or as part of a 4 week rolling timetable. The final job plan is subject to discussion during the recruitment process and review with the Specialty Lead or Clinical Director at regular intervals.
