Main duties of the job
About the role
As Business Development Manager, you’ll work closely with the Business Development Director and Chief Commercial Officer to shape and execute strategic initiatives. You'll bring commercial expertise, influence major partnerships, and navigate both NHS and industry environments with confidence and clarity.
We’re looking for a commercially minded team player who can:
- Negotiate and manage complex commercial contracts.
- Lead strategic business planning, funding bids, and project delivery.
- Build trusted relationships with stakeholders across the NHS, government, and industry.
- Oversee governance, reporting, and financial processes for high-impact projects.
- Communicate complex ideas in simple, compelling ways to senior audiences.

What we need from you the candidate
To thrive in this role, you'll need:
- A strong background in business development or commercial management, ideally within or alongside the NHS and life sciences industry landscape
- Deep understanding of the UK digital health and innovation ecosystem.
- Experience of or deep understanding of how life science and health technol;ogy organisations operate within their codes of conduct and financial governance.
- Excellent problem-solving, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- The ability to work independently to solve problems, and create improved processes to support the growth of the team and delivery of stretching targets
- The ability to translate strategy into delivery, again working both independently and within teams.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level with additional qualification to master’s level in business management
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Additional training or experience around business development, post grad level
Desirable criteria
- Strong experience of working with industry and developing relationships with external partners
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience of working within business management role and team
- Experience and understanding of proven implementation of project management methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience of working closely and liaising with very Senior leaders from partner organisations
Skills & abilities
Essential criteria
- Uses own initiative and takes responsibility for own actions & behaviours
- Ability to prepare and produce concise yet insightful communications for dissemination to senior stakeholders
- Ability to build and maintain a variety of constructive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
Desirable criteria
- Strong ability to write business reports and present information in a suitable format
