Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist

Band 7

Job overview

This is a brilliant opportunity for a dedicated Occupational Therapist to promote and improve the mental and physical health and well-being of Children, Young People and those who care for them.  You’ll be working with young people aged up to 18 years with eating disorder and Pervasive Arousal Withdrawal Syndrome (PAWS).  You’ll be providing interventions on an individual basis, planning and providing group-based interventions. We’ll rely on you to ensure there is effective and sensitive communication between, the Children and Young People in your care, those who care for them, the health professionals you work with and other relevant agencies.  This is a varied and extremely rewarding role, helping young people who can be resistant to change, re-establish routines and improve their day to day lives.  Galaxy House is a 12 bedded specialist inpatient service based at RMCH within MFT. Ideally, you will have experience in either a mental health, rehabilitation or paediatric setting. We’ll support you to develop your skills to become an expert in your field.

Let us tell you more about what the job involves and why this could be your next and best career move – you just need the right skills, experience and attitude so you can meet the needs and demands of this critical and life enhancing role for our patients.

Main duties of the job

With current HCPC registration alongside a recognised Occupational Therapy qualification, you’ll develop and undertake individual and group-based sessions.

You will be involved in pre-admission assessments, their therapeutic input throughout their admission and support their discharge planning back to the community.

Working with complex young people to provide intensive ward based interventions using a holistic goal setting approach.  This would allow you to use your therapeutic skills looking at both the young person’s physical and mental health needs. Part of the role is to develop training sessions for members of the MDT.

Dedicated to providing an environment that encourages patient-centred involvement, you’ll contribute to MDT meetings and developing joint intervention packages.  You will make sure that care is coordinated with the internal and external departments you work with, with the ultimate aim of providing the best patient journey possible.

Using your knowledge of evidence-based practice, you’ll offer therapeutic solutions in line with the National Institute for Health & Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines.

Working for our organisation

MFT is one of the largest NHS Trusts in England with a turnover of £2.8bn & is on a different scale than most other NHS Trusts. We’re creating an exceptional integrated health & social care system for the 1 million patients who rely on our services every year.

Bringing together 10 hospitals & community services from across Manchester, Trafford & beyond, we champion collaborative working & transformation, encouraging our 30,000 workforce to pursue their most ambitious goals. We set standards that other Trusts seek to emulate so you’ll benefit from a scale of opportunity that is nothing short of extraordinary.

We’ve also created a digitally enabled organisation to improve clinical quality, patient & staff experience, operational effectiveness & driving research, and innovation through the introduction of Hive; our Electronic Patient Record system which launched in September 2022.

We’re proud to be a major academic Research Centre & Education provider, providing you with a robust infrastructure to encourage and facilitate high-quality research programmes. What’s more, we’re excited to be embarking on our Green Plan which sets out how MFT continues to play its part in making healthcare more sustainable.

At MFT, we create and foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, provide equal opportunities for career development that are fair, open, and transparent, protecting your health and wellbeing and shaping the future of our organisation together.
