Job overview
We are recruiting an enthusiastic and compassionate Assistant Psychologist to join us within the ND pathway at Stockport CAMHS.
This is a new post at Stockport and the role will include supporting the children and young people who are referred to the service for an autism or ADHD assessment as well as their families.
This position will close once the maximum number of applications has been reached.
Main duties of the job
Supporting psychological intervention delivery in the ND pathway including direct, indirect work and various research, development, and evaluation projects.

Essential criteria
- An understanding of the difficulties of children with neurodevelopmental conditions and / or mental health problems and the needs of their carers
- An understanding of psychology applied to health care
- Knowledge of child development
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of ability to design and evaluate research projects relevant to Clinical Psychology
Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria
- An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology
- Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
Desirable criteria
- Undergraduate research relevant to Child Psychology
- Further training in relevant areas of psychology and / or mental health
Experience
Essential criteria
- Work as a Psychology Assistant in Child Speciality
Desirable criteria
- Experience using micro computers for data analysis, especially SPSS for Windows
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- High level of communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to communicate sensitive information to patients, carers and colleagues in a way that addresses psychological resistance
- Ability to devise observational measures
- An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines
- An ability to interact with children with mental health problems / disabilities and their families
- Ability to accept and use supervision appropriately and effectively
Desirable criteria
- High Standard of report writing
- An interest in working with children with mental health problems / disabilities and their families
- A desire to explore a career in Clinical Psychology
