Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care to over 275,000 children and young people each year. In addition to the hospital site located in the West Derby area of Liverpool, Alder Hey has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Alder Park building in the nearby borough of Sefton.

We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We’re also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.

An exciting opportunity has become available within the Division of Medicine for a Band 8B Head of Nursing for Urgent Care and ED.

We are looking for an experienced senior nurse with proven influencing, leadership and management skills; sound understanding of service line management with a passion for delivering a safe and high quality service, with the tenacity to drive ideas to outcome.

Experience within an Acute Trust is essential along with an ability to demonstrate leadership skills.  This role also requires strong clinical, organisational and collaborative working skills.

The successful applicant should have experience of managing change and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

You will bring excellent interpersonal, managerial, organisational and influencing skills into the role, embracing change and innovation whilst working with and supporting the Associate Chief Nurse for the Division of Medicine.

Main duties of the job

  • Operational delivery and co-ordination of high quality, efficient, patient-focused Division of Medicine services including effective resource and performance management to achieve corporate objectives
  • Delivery of access, activity, financial and governance targets within the Division of Medicine.
  • Strategic development and implementation of plans to meet the Trust’s objectives including re-design of services to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provision of effective leadership and management. To develop and support behaviours in line with the trust values to create a positive environment and deliver a high quality service.
  • Support the Emergency Dept. team with strong clinical leadership.
  • Under your clinical leadership, the ED team will continue to develop and support the delivery of National and Local standards whilst adhering to policy and procedures. With clinical colleagues, the Head of Nursing will ensure the delivery of high quality care within the ED Department ensuring service progression and improving the quality of care whilst ensuring the efficiency and performance of the department meets with National standards and 

    improves care for services users.  The successful candidate will ensure the nursing team demonstrate safe, critical decision-making and will work collaboratively with the wider multi-disciplinary teams to meet the needs of patients.
