Job overview

The role consists of preparation for month end, prepayments and accruals, month end variance analysis, monthly budget meetings and being the first point of contact for queries from budget holders. You will also work with a wide variety of teams across finance and within the hospital and as part of your role you will be expected to attend various meetings as well as present. There will also be the need for you to support the Divisional Accountants and liaise with members of NHS and non-NHS bodies, where appropriate, on behalf of the Trust.

Ensures that the income due to the Trust is identified, invoiced and collected through close liaison with the Business Planning Team and the Financial Services Team.

Main duties of the job

Maintains and monitors through the trusts ledger system, income and expenditure budgets.

Investigates variances on budget statements and makes required budget and expenditure adjustments in accordance with established procedures.

Holds regular budgetary meetings with budget managers providing sensitive and complex information and advice in line with SFI’s and SO’s.

To work in close liaison with the Business Planning Team in the production of meaningful recharges to NHS and non-NHS bodies, including provider and visiting clinician’s recharges.

To work closely with the Business Planning Team in the production of accurate reference costs, liasing with Budget Managers as necessary.

Writes and maintains desk procedure notes for own area of responsibility.

Provides information for the completion of the Trusts financial returns.

Produces the annual pay costed budgets in line with the Trusts policy and procedures, and assists in annual non-pay and income budget setting.

In accordance with the agreed rota and procedures, carry out the payment run checks.

Assists in preparing elements of business plans as required.

Assist in the training and development of the Assistant Management Accountants.

To promote standards of corporate governance in line with audit guidelines, Standing Financial Instructions and Scheme of Delegation.

To continue own personal and professional development, and to actively participate in in-house training.
