The pharmacy department at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust comprises of almost 500 staff working across 5 sites delivering care to patients. As a forward-thinking department, we are keen to appoint enthusiastic, knowledgeable and exceptional individuals.

An exciting new opportunity has arisen in the Respiratory/Cystic fibrosis and General Medicine pharmacy teams for a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated pharmacist to join the clinical pharmacy team and deliver high quality clinical care. You will work with the lead pharmacists and a well-established team pharmacy team to develop your clinical skills. As a valued member of the multi-disciplinary team you will contribute to service improvement projects to enhance efficiencies within the medicine and pharmacy directorates.

The postholder will be an independent prescriber or willing to complete it. 

Good communication, time management and analytical skills will be required and the ability to work effectively in a team. In addition, you will contribute to pharmacy services in the evenings and weekends, thus maintaining your basic skills and competence.

Applicants must have a certificate in clinical pharmacy or equivalent and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. 

Main duties of the job

 

The key roles of the post are to: 

·      provide a high-quality specialist clinical pharmacy service to respiratory, cystic fibrosis and general medical patients supporting the relevant lead pharmacists and principal pharmacist for medicine 

support safe transition of care for patients across health care boundaries.

·        perform independent pharmacist prescriber role (when completed relevant training).

·      produce and implement guidelines, protocols and SOPs with the support of a senior pharmacist.

·      contribute to service development projects under the guidance of the lead and Principal Pharmacist as required.

·       provide support and mentorship for the post-registration pharmacists

·       complete the post-graduate clinical pharmacy diploma (if not already attained).

·       participate in the education and training of pre-registration pharmacists, other pharmacy staff and healthcare professionals.

·      support pharmacy service areas in the department, this may include dispensaries, technical and medicines information

·  contribute to the out of hours service including evenings and weekends.

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • MPharm in pharmacy
  • Post-graduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy (60 credits passed)
Desirable criteria
  • Post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy
  • Independent Prescriber
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post–registration experience in clinical pharmacy
  • Experience in a wide range of clinical pharmacy specialities including respiratory, cystic fibrosis or general medical wards
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team and experience in UK hospital pharmacy
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working within service development projects

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Achievement of dispensing and checking competency. Complettion of UKMI training sections
  • Excellent all round communication skills.
  • IT competency
