Job overview
Welcome to our brand new Paediatric Psychiatric Liaison Team within central access we have exciting opportunities to work within the Great North Children's Hospital. This post offers an exciting and challenging opportunity to work in this service at a time when Psychiatric Liaison is high on the national agenda embedding all age services within our acute trusts. These are full time, permanent positions.
The service will provide all psychiatric input to the Acute Hospital for those presenting with a mental health problem. The service requires working across a 12 hour shift system. A full training and support package will be offered based around the RCP Psychiatric Liaison Accreditation Standards and the Liaison Competency Framework. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a new service.
Main duties of the job
Liaison staff providing comprehensive biopsychosocial mental health assessments.
We will have a supportive MDT each day.
Providing psychological interventions to patients within the acute hospital
Liaising with professional's involved in the person's care.
Providing training and education to acute staff.

Education and Qualification
Essential criteria
- Professional Qualification and current Professional Registration as, a First Level Registered Nurse (RNMH, RMN, RNLD) or equivalent as an AHP, Social Worker or Clinical Psychologist
- Mentor Training.
- Proven track record of post registration clinical experience relevant to the post.
- Training in CPA (Care Programme Approach), Safeguarding, MAPPA (Multi Agency Panel for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults) and Child Protection.
- Up-to-date knowledge/experience of relevant legislation.
Desirable criteria
- Post registration qualification in psychological intervention
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- 12 to 24 month band 5 qualified nurse experience dependent upon service need.
- Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, NMC standards and other local and national initiatives.
Skills and Competencies
Essential criteria
- Proven ability to carry out and provide comprehensive written assessments of individuals with complex mental health needs.
- Risk Assessment and Risk Management / Safety Planning skills.
- Demonstrate an understanding of effective & appropriate treatment options including a range of evidence based clinical approaches as identified in N.I.C.E. Guidance).
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Evidence of a high level of professional, organisational and leadership skills (self & others).
- Ability to adapt within a changing environment.
