Job overview
To undertake repairs, maintenance and installation work appropriate to core specialist skills across all healthcare facilities, dealing with mainly the joinery fabric, fixtures and fittings but will also include a comprehensive range of other building structures and fittings
Main duties of the job
· Undertake routine and non-routine joinery and carpentry works, including repairs, installations, and minor alterations to doors, windows, locks, fixtures, fittings, partitions, and general building fabric.
· Operate and maintain woodworking machinery and associated tools, ensuring safe and effective use at all times.
· Perform repairs and maintenance on fire doors, fire protection systems, glazing units, suspended ceilings, curtain track systems, and furniture.
· Support minor building works and refurbishment projects, including dry lining, wall cladding, tiling, plastering, and the installation of passive fire protection measures.
· Respond promptly to emergency situations such as fires, floods, or lift entrapments, taking appropriate action to ensure safety.
· Carry out planned preventative maintenance, statutory inspections, and reactive maintenance tasks in line with service schedules.
· Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and compliance activities via electronic systems (e.g., PDA/iPad).
· Collaborate with other estates disciplines (mechanical, electrical, etc.) to support a multi-skilled team approach.
· Provide advice, support, and instruction to apprentices, colleagues, and contractors when required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder is responsible for carrying out unsupervised routine and non-routine joinery, carpentry, and minor building works across Trust estates. This includes maintenance, repairs, installations, and improvements to doors, windows, fixtures, fire doors, and general building fabric, using specialist materials and equipment where needed.
They will also respond to emergencies (e.g., fires, floods, lift failures), undertake planned and reactive maintenance, operate hand and power tools safely, and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
The role involves supporting a multi-skilled team approach, assisting other trades, instructing apprentices or less experienced staff, and maintaining accurate records using electronic systems. Flexibility, high standards of workmanship, and a willingness to work outside normal hours are essential. A full, clean driving licence is required to travel across multiple sites.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- The post holder will have served a recognised and registered apprenticeship and hold a minimum City and Guilds Craft Certificate in carpentry and joinery or similar trade certificate in the relevant core skills.
- He/she shall be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in the following: general joinery and carpentry skills an ability to undertake work on all elements of building structures.
- Hold a current clean driving licence
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Previous appropriate working experience within a maintenance environment of at least two years post apprenticeship will be required.
HEALTH

- Able to fulfill the health requirements of the post as identified in the Job Description, taking into account any reasonable adjustments recommended by Occupational Health.
GENERAL
Essential criteria
- Must be eligible to work in the UK. Ability to work in various locations throughout the network of services provided by Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation Trust.
- The post holder must display the ability to work both on his/her own and as part of a team; organising and supervising his/her own workload. To be sensitive to the requirements of the service and be aware of the inter action with other disciplines and departments to show a versatile and flexible attitude to work, to be capable of learning new skills and to be willing to participate in organised training programmes to enhance existing and develop new knowledge and skills.

- Have an awareness of all Trust policies and procedures.
