Infrastructure Services
The purpose of Infrastructure services is to ensure our services and systems are hosted effectively, securely and efficiently.
The function of Infrastructure services brings all network and hosting infrastructure into a single team which will provide a multi-skilled 24/7 Infra Operations team organised by function and focussed on supporting continual improvement.
The teams are divided into four core areas providing technical and service management expertise:
- Hosting
- Cloud centre of excellence
- Connectivity
- Central capabilities
Main duties of the job
The Technical Consultant role uses a wide array of technologies and applications hosted in Cloud environments, supporting Landing Zones and supporting Cloud Infrastructure. This role will provide support primarily within the Infrastructure Operations environment and across the NHS England programme teams. The post-holder will have significant knowledge of their specialist technology area.
The postholder for this role will be a specialist in Infrastructure Technical Consultant (cloud) and will undertake the following:
· Delivers technical support for core cloud infrastructure within NHS England.
· Develops relationships between Infrastructure Operations Teams and internal/external Stakeholders.
· Supporting the Services hosted in the Cloud environments.
. Excellent communication skills, be team-oriented and proactively respond to new challenges in the Infrastructure Operations team.
· Manages and maintains own professional knowledge and development in their technical specialism and embraces development opportunities to support new technologies, frameworks and services including the move to Cloud.

RRP (Recruitment and Retention Premia)
The post of Technical Consultant has been awarded a Recruitment and Retention Premia (RRP) in response to current labour market conditions. In recognition of this, the role attracts an additional monthly RRP payment equal to 13% per annum.
Security Clearance
To meet National Security Vetting requirements, SC clearances require 5 years continuous UK residency. In certain cases, this can be reduced to three years continuous UK residency, with additional overseas checks for the previous two years.
Candidates who were posted abroad for service with HM Government, Armed Forces or within a UK government role - will still be considered.
Please make sure you meet these requirements before applying for this role. You don’t need to have security clearance level already, however, failure to achieve the requirements for security clearance level after offer, will result in the job offer being withdrawn.

Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable experience delivering AWS services within a complex, enterprise-scale environment.
- Demonstrable experience using automation, scripting and Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Python, Terraform, Bash) to deploy, manage, and support cloud services.
- Experience working with Git/GitHub and following DevOps best practices, with an understanding of least privilege principles and cloud security policy.

- Administrator level Cloud Certification
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
Skills
Essential criteria
- Proven ability to lead and own the end-to-end delivery of new cloud services and solutions, ensuring quality and engaging stakeholders throughout.
- Proven ability to negotiate effectively with customers and service owners, and to plan, organise, and prioritise workload whilst managing conflicting demands and expectations.
- Understanding of cloud governance, policy and guardrails, and how they are implemented and maintained in an enterprise environment.
