Job overview

Cunliffe ward at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital is a progressive, supportive environment with a dynamic and motivated team.
We consider ourselves to be a friendly supportive ward.  
The ward has a specialist interest in renal medicine and provides both Haemodialysis (HD) and Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) for both acute and chronic patients in the ward setting.  There are five beds designated for patients receiving haemodialysis, four of which are located in the Renal High Dependency bay.
Service users with Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), advanced Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), on dialysis therapies or who have previously received a kidney transplant requiring medical care will be nursed on this ward as well as those with general medical conditions.
Patients on Cunliffe Ward can present with a variety of conditions with differing holistic and social needs. Such needs present a challenge for the nurses on the ward enabling them to develop their nursing skills to a high standard.  Individualised care is a priority for the team and the Fundamentals of Care tool is most frequently used as part of the assessment framework process.

 

Main duties of the job

As the Ward Manager you will be responsible for managing the ward, promoting a positive patient and staff experience and leading on the delivery of excellent nursing care. This role requires close working relationships with a wide range of people including the Multi-Disciplinary Team, Consultants, Heads of Nursing, Matrons and other Ward Managers.

Alongside the clinical continuous professional development, the successful candidate can expect to develop both their leadership and managerial skillset. Overseeing a vibrant team and supporting their practice through a strong clinical presence. Striving to achieve both local and National objectives.

§  Continuous responsibility for the twenty-four hour management of nursing on the  Medical ward.

 §  Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for all patients within designated areas.

 §  Accountable for the quality of care delivered within clinical area by nursing

 §  Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to develop services provided for patients within clinical area.
