Main duties of the job

Are you looking for a new and exciting challenge and a career in pharmacy? Then this may be the role for you, we have an opportunity for a hardworking, keen candidate to join our team and earn whilst they learn working towards a professional qualification as a registered pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council. 

Our Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technician Apprentices undertake a two-year distance learning training programme with the University of East Anglia under the supervision and with the support of our dedicated pharmacy training team. One day per week is dedicated off the job to studies where you can work from home on evidence based work and interactive training modules. The UEA team also deliver face to face study days and regular revision and informative online forums. 

This is a practical apprenticeship learning on the job with a L4 qualification within, you will be based predominately at Southampton General Hospital with rotations at the Royal South Hants Pharmacy also incorporated. The role is full time working 37.5hours per week, with a one in six weekend commitment and approximately one Bank Holiday shift per year.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking for a keen, hard working, organised individual who is passionate about developing a career in pharmacy and becoming a registered pharmacy technician and can balance working full time with their studies.
The pharmacy is open 8am until 7pm so shifts will be within these hours depending on section working - for example 8.30-5pm, 9-5.30pm, 10.30-7pm

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • 5 GCSE’s grade C or above (4-9), or equivalent and must include English language, Maths and Science
  • Willingness and ability to undertake Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of Health and Safety and Risk Management
  • Experience of working/dealing with the public including part time or voluntary work
  • Demonstrate ability to work as part of a team
Desirable criteria
  • Level 2 NVQ certificate in Pharmacy service skills or other GPhC approved qualification
  • Experience of stock management
  • Work experience, either in hospital pharmacy and/or community pharmacy
  • Experience of working in a customer orientated service or healthcare setting
  • Experience of recent study including portfolio construction
