Job overview

Leeds and York NHS Partnership Foundation Trust are looking for enthusiastic and experienced Health Support Workers to join our team. We are currently recruiting to our inpatient service within both Becklin Centre and Newsam Centre. 
The Acute Inpatient Service and PICU consists of 4 wards at the Becklin Centre and 2 wards at the Newsam Centre which Centre which provide care for people experiencing acute mental health issues. 
The successful candidates will work within a multi-disciplinary team providing high quality care and treatment of clients within the inpatient service based at the male and female wards within Becklin Centre and Newsam Centre. We are looking for individuals who are;

•    Able and willing to work flexibly, to meet the needs of the service
•    Passionate about working with patients with complex mental health disorders.
A flexible approach is required as the post involves working flexibly over a 24 hr / 7 day basis. You must be able to work a variety of shifts including nightshifts, weekends and public holidays.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We will offer you an induction and a continuing written appraisal and the opportunity to complete the care certificate, supported by regular supervision. You will be supported in your personal and professional development via clinical supervision, training and other Continuing Professional Development opportunities.

As a Health Support worker, you will be expected to work with patients, carers and Multi-Disciplinary Team to provide care to people with mental health needs. 
The successful candidate will be positive and enthusiastic in your approach, calm and confident when dealing with the needs of the service users. You will have excellent communication skills, and will show that you have the ability to form and sustain therapeutic relationships with people with mental health needs. 

The successful candidate will:
· have good verbal communication skills and an excellent understanding of how to build rapport with
patients, carers and others as required
· understand the possible barriers in building a good, effective, professional, empathic relationship with
patients, and to be aware of strategies to help improve communications and relationships
· act as a positive role model showing professional and caring attitudes and behaviour towards other multidisciplinary team members, patients and carers.
· have experience of working with a range of patients with complex mental health needs and have an understanding of how mental unwellness can effect a person ability to cope and function.
· be patient focused/person centred in your approach.
· encourage patients to be involved in all aspects of their care
· build therapeutic relationships with patients and engage in activities with patients.

You will be able to demonstrate genuine interest in mental health and be committed to involving service users in all aspects of their care. The role requires candidates to support the care, assessments, interventions and activities for service users.
