Are you an AAT part-qualified accounting technician with experience in financial management looking for a fresh and exciting new challenge?

We have an exciting opportunity in our newly restructured, award winning Financial Management team supporting a £365m turnover high performing Foundation Trust.  To deliver our strategy, we are looking for a Management Accountant to support the delivery of our monthly management accounts across one of our clinical Care Groups.

You will be a key part of the finance team providing financial stewardship to the organisation and supporting the achievement of the finance team vision.

Main duties of the job

An Excellent opportunity is available to support the Financial Management team reporting to the Deputy Finance Business Partner.

The post holder, will support the Financial Management team in providing support to budget holders and to ensure information and data is accurate and up to date.

Responsible for ensuring accuracy within the General Ledger and associated financial systems in order to improve the level of services (quality, relevance, accuracy and timeliness of information) and increased efficiency to allow the wider trust manage their budgets and deliver the FT financial regime.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To prepare & distribute monthly directorates financial reports with the support of the management accountant.
  • To input into the Oracle Financial Management System (I.e. Journals, budgets and data from feeder systems (Payroll/Stock/Debtors/Creditors)
  • To assist in providing information and support to allow identification and interpretation of variances from budget. Assisting the provision of monthly commentaries on the key financial issues for the management accountant to ensure any trends are identified
  • Assists the Deputy FBP / Management Accountant in the preparation of annual budgets, ensuring that budgets reflect service requirements.
  • Helps ensure all Income is accurately identified and invoices are raised in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with Financial Services to ensure all income and expenditure is correctly coded.
  • Maintaining the control and accuracy of budgets as directed by the Deputy FBP / Management Accountant ensuring that budgetary controls are reconciled and balanced off on a monthly basis.
  • To prepare ad-hoc costing information as requested by budget managers under supervision.
  • Contribute to and support the development and improvement of financial procedures to drive efficiency and quality.
  • To work as part of the overall financial management department and to develop close working relationships with other financial management assistants.
  • To develop effective working relationships, and under supervision, provide advice and answer financial queries for key personal at various levels of seniority working within the
  • Assist in the production of working papers where required to the Trust’s statutory annual
  • To ensure that departmental standards and agreed deadlines are met. To deputise for the Management Accountant as required.
  • To perform any other duties as may be delegated from time to time.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • AAT Part- Qualified and minimum of 2 years’ experience in financial management.
Desirable criteria
  • AAT Qualified
  • NHS experience

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good computer skills with experience of Microsoft office particularly MS Excel. Ability to input into and interrogate the finance general ledger to obtain standard and ad hoc reports, provide working papers and audit trails and understand documentation for month end. Ability to provide and receive complex financial information to/from financial and non-financial staff orally, in writing or electronically in a professional manner. Ability to work under pressure and flexibly to deal with changing priorities and tight deadlines. Must have excellent prioritisation and organisational skills. Must possess good analytical skills Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to raise invoices, record and monitor income and understand aged debt and follow up actions required. Knowledge of calculating and analysing budget statements and variances.
  • Ability to input into and interrogate the finance general ledger to obtain standard and ad hoc reports, provide working papers and audit trails and understand documentation for month end.
  • Ability to provide and receive complex financial information to/from financial and non-financial staff orally, in writing or electronically in a professional manner
  • Ability to work under pressure and flexibly to deal with changing priorities and tight deadlines
  • Must have excellent prioritisation and organisational skills.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Desktop Discoverer and oracle 11i
  • Knowledge of Standing Financial Instructions, standing orders and schemes of delegation.
  • Knowledge of Payment by results
  • Knowledge of calculating and processing tax, NI, superannuation and VAT.
  • Knowledge of the management, monitoring and reporting of service agreements.
