Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.

 

Job overview

This is a new post and our primary aim in recruitment is to recruit an outstanding fetal medicine expert and clinical leader.

We are looking for the right candidate to lead and develop our fetal medicine service at Broomfield site, work closely with MSE lead fetal medicine clinician, developing our strategic relationship with the Fetal Medicine Foundation and new relationships with Anglia Ruskin Medical School. It is a key strategic aim that all the women that we care for have equal access to our in-house fetal medicine service, invasive procedures, specialist midwives and access to clinical trials.

We offer a comprehensive termination of pregnancy service for fetal abnormalities including feticide. We are looking for an individual to support seamless care, contributing to our feticide service and carrying out duties in accordance with the abortion act.

The rest of the job description, person specification and job plan has been left deliberately non-specific and is therefore subject to negotiation.  This flexibility for the right candidate, includes the option to deliver labour ward and gynae hot weeks and consultant on-call commitments for either obstetrics or obstetrics and gynaecology.

Main duties of the job

You will work from the  working with the consultant body, clinical fellows (from the Fetal Medicine Foundation at King’s College Hospital) and specialist midwives to provide and lead an outstanding Fetal Medicine Service providing a comprehensive service throughout pregnancy in the diagnosis and management of all fetal conditions. 

You will lead the Fetal Medicine services to ensure:

Equity of access to Fetal Medicine services across the MSE, with standards, policies and protocols
Lead and motivate the multi-disciplinary team to deliver effective patient-focused care and interventions
Education and training
Drive forward innovations and improvements within the service, including supporting the advancement of scientific and clinical knowledge by conducting and participating in research
Drive the annual audit programme and quality assurance programme.
Communication with King’s College Hospital Fetal Medicine Service as needed.
Collaboration with Anglia Ruskin University and contribution to both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Entry onto the GMC specialist register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of application
  • MRCOG
  • ATSM Fetal Medicine/Equivalent
  • GMC Registration

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Subject matter expertise across several key areas relating to fetal medicine, and able to evidence national recognition of their expertise.
  • Experience in feticide and termination of pregnancy

Ability (Clinical)

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication and counselling skills with patients, medical and nursing staff
  • Commitment to effective departmental management and management of a multi-disciplinary group. Evidence of Management training.

Ability (IT)

Essential criteria
  • Excellent IT Skills.
