Job overview
The laboratory Technician Apprentice is a member of a multidisciplinary Pathology team. They provide services to patients, Clinicians and General Practitioners, and assist qualified laboratory staff in the delivery of an effective service.
Delegated work and duties will be arranged and performed under the direct and indirect supervision of a State Registered Biomedical Scientist (BMS) utilising Standard Operating Procedures. A period of “in house” induction and training will be provided.
The post is fixed term of two years to undertake Level 3 laboratory Technician Apprenticeship, working 37.5 hours a week based within the Pathology departments across the Path Links network. You will be based on a site and attend teaching when required. This is a full-time role working five days a week (Monday - Friday 09:00-17:30). There is a requirement to participate in the Front of House rota for weekends on a pro rata basis.
Posts are available on all 5 Path Links Sites Boston/Grantham/Grimsby/Lincoln/Scunthorpe.
Main duties of the job
The posts are based across the Pathology laboratories (Cellular Pathology/Microbiology and Blood Sciences) within the Path Links network.
The role involves data entry, preparation of specimens using automated equipment and manual processes.
Candidates should have good GCSE’s in Science, English and Maths, or be able to demonstrate suitable equivalent training or experience.
You will be required to have good communication and keyboard skills, and the ability to work under pressure. Although supervised by Biomedical Scientists, once fully trained, you should be capable of working independently.
Candidates will have to successfully complete the Level 3 Laboratory Technician qualification.
