An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic band 6 static Occupational Therapist in neurology to join Chelsea and Westminster Foundation Trust
This post is a 6 months fixed term contact which would be suited to a Occupational Therapist wishing to specialise in Neurology / Stroke
Main duties of the job
To be a Specialist Occupational Therapist and have a detailed professional and clinical knowledge. The post holder will be a specialist practitioner and may work across various clinical specialities which will be in the form of a static post.
To work as an autonomous practitioner in providing specialist stroke and neurological assessment and treatment to own designated caseload of patients and to maintain up to date therapy records.
To use evidence based principles/current best practice and specialist skills to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
To participate in CPD and other developmental activities
To regularly supervise, teach and support more junior staff, assistants and students on placement.
To have the opportunity to participate in, or lead, a departmental research project.
To assist in the day to day running and organisation of Stroke and Neurological therapy service to patients on the stroke unit, and elsewhere in the hospital.
To work flexibly when needed to support other therapy teams such as medical rehabilitation and ED and acute medicine.
To participate in appropriate evening and weekend service provision e.g. stroke assessment, respiratory or rapid response

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc or Diploma in Occupational therapy
- HCPC registration
- Evidence of CPD portfolio and recent relevant post graduate courses
Desirable criteria
- Member of RCOT
- Member of special interest group
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience working as an autonomous qualified therapist in Neurology or stroke care
- Experience of working in an acute care setting
- Experience working as an autonomous qualified therapist in other relevant clinical areas e.g. medicine, elderly, rehabilitation. Experience of complex discharge planning
- Experience working as part of MDT
- Active participation in in-service training programmes
Desirable criteria
- Previous therapy experience in community stroke services
- Experience of wheelchairs and seating devices
- Experience of supervision and teaching of assistants, students and other members of MDT
Skills and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates some specialist knowledge of Neurological assessment and treatment skills
- Demonstrates clear understanding of the pressures of acute working
- Demonstrates advanced clinical reasoning skills
- Able to self-evaluate and utilise opportunities to develop self
- Able to understand and adhere to the professional and legal responsibilities of the profession
- Ability to cope with stressful working situations including emotional or aggressive patients/carers
- Evidence of ability to prioritise/effective time management

- Awareness of local external agencies and associations relating to neurology and stroke care

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
