Fellowship in Interventional Neuroradiology

 Background to the Post

A fixed term contract post is available for a Senior Fellow (ST6+/Post CCT) in Interventional Neuroradiology in the Department of Radiology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

The applicant should possess FRCR or equivalent and have undergone formal subspecialty Neuroradiology training.

This post is for a fixed term duration of 12 months commencing September 2025.

The Department is primarily based at Charing Cross Hospital and offers a wide exposure to all aspects of Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology.

 The goals and objectives of the INR Fellowship program are to train the next generation of leaders in INR with an emphasis on clinical, teaching and research skills.

 The post timetable is made expecting the candidate will be able to work independently with minimal supervision after an initial supervision period. The Fellow will be expected to contribute to the delivery of the Acute Thrombectomy service.

Main duties of the job

Charing Cross Hospital is one of five major interventional neuroradiology centres in London delivering a 24/7 thrombectomy service with a large catchment area. The services provides a comprehensive diagnostic and neurointervention provision for all haemorrhaghic and ischaemic neurovascular pathologies.

 

The fellowship will offer the successful candidate an opportunity to be trained in the full repertoire of neurointerventional procedures. The fellowship will provide a unique opportunity to work within our 24/7 mechanical thrombectomy service and gain valuable experience to support the future expansion of stroke services at other institutions. They will participate in and support the full range of departmental activities.

 

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

(a)  The purpose of this post is to provide a broad training in interventional neuroradiology. The fellow will be expected to:

                                                                 

i) work with the consultant and specialist registrars (SpRs) to fulfil the clinical obligations of the department,

ii) participate in research projects,
iii) Quality improvement and audit activity,

iv) participate in formal and informal teaching to SpRs, medical students and ancillary medical personnel. 

 

(b)  Clinical Commitment:  The fellow will initially be under the direct supervision of a consultant but will have a more autonomous role as he/she gains experience. 

(c)  On Call: Participation in a fellow on-call rota.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • On GMC register/ licensed Medical Practitioner
  • FRCR or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate degrees (BSc, MD, PhD etc)

Audit

Essential criteria
  • Experience of participating in clinical audits
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of clinical audit

Academic achievements including research/publications

Desirable criteria
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals.

Language

Essential criteria
  • Fluent English speaker

Physical requirements

Essential criteria
  • Physically capable of working as general radiologist
  • Occupational health clearance for the role specified

Communication Skills

Essential criteria
  • Fluent English speaker. Experience of PACS/VR reporting

Clinical skills

Essential criteria
  • General radiology: independent reporting of on call work, CT and emergency MRI
  • Experience of performing image guide procedures in the interventional radiology setting.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of interventional neuroradiology procedures including cerebral/spinal angiography and nerve root injections

Relevant experience in specialty/Sub specialty

Essential criteria
  • Experience in wide range of imaging modalities and specialties
  • Pre-CCT Subspecialty training in diagnostic neuroradiology ,Experience of cerebral and spinal angiography
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of performing cerebral mechanical thrombectomy and acute cerebral aneurysm endovascular treatments.
