Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Staffing Manager to join the Surgery Department at King’s College Hospital on a fixed term/Secondment basis. We are looking for a resilient, enthusiastic, motivated and proactively driven individual to fulfil this key position within the Care Group.
The post holder is responsible for providing a reliable and efficient medical staffing service to all doctors and consultants across the Care Group, as well as providing an excellent administrative service to the operational and medical teams . Acting as the first point of contact for any medical staffing enquiries, the post holder will have the responsibility for the provision of a safely staffed medical team in conjunction with the Clinical Leads.
Main duties of the job
The post will entail creating and maintaining medical rotas, sourcing locum medical staff to within budgetary limits, organising honorary and observer contracts, managing medical recruitment campaigns, processing medical leave and sickness records for the medical staff, organisation of regular junior doctor rotations and inductions in conjunction with the Clinical Leads and a variety of other tasks required to provide the Care Group with an efficient medical staffing service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This is a key role within the Care Group team. The post holder will act as the technical expert for all medical staffing related activities within an allocated service area. The post holder will take a lead role in the delivery of the medical staffing coordination function working closely with operational managers as well as Clinical Leads and Clinical Directors.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Co-ordinate Junior Doctor Rotas to ensure compliance with current requirements, identifying gaps and organising cover in line with service needs and budget constraints.
- Manage and oversee medical staffing recruitment (including local induction) within service area for substantive and locum staff
- In conjunction with Operational Managers, monitor financial management of medical staffing through the participation in regular reviews to identify issues and discuss efficiency savings.
- Advise Operational Managers and Lead Clinicians on any other medical workforce related issues.

- First Degree
- Good general education including numeracy and literacy skills
Knowledge and Experience

- NHS experience

- Knowledge and appreciation of the employment of medical staff including Junior Doctor New Deal and Working Time Directive requirements
- Some understanding of employment practices
- Experience in the acute sector
Skills and Competencies
Essential criteria
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across a range of disciplines and levels
- Ability to analyse, interpret, present and communicate both verbally and in writing complex information in a way that informs decision making.
- Attention to detail which ensures that accurate quality information is produced
- Good computer literacy including the use of computerised recording systems, word processing and excel spreadsheet packages
- Ability to prioritise workload, work under pressure and meet deadlines with limited supervision
- Ability to show initiative

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
