Clinical Support Worker - Inpatient (Children and Young People)

We have vacancies at our Kent and Medway Adolescent Hospital (KMAH) based in Staplehurst, Kent for Band 3 Clinical Support Worker to work within our Adolescent Inpatient Unit

Main duties of the job

The role involves supporting young people who have been admitted and to engage in treatment around managing their mental health and risk. The average length of stay for young people is around 6-8 weeks during which time the young person and their family are offered treatment to support safe discharge back to the community. Young people admitted to the unit may engage in behaviours often associated with mental distress such as self-harm, agitation, suicidal thoughts and intrusive thoughts.

Currently within the team we have a range of professionals such as psychiatrist, therapist, occupational therapist, nurses and support Workers.  The focus of the role is on risk assessment and management in a hospital setting and involves interfacing with other agencies and contributing to the therapeutic timetable.

The team operate 24/7 and shifts can be over long days, earlys/lates and nights. There is opportunity to discuss flexible working options with the right candidate.

The right candidate will be able to work well under pressure and in the face of emotional situations and be confident in making decisions in the best interests of children, young people and their families.

As well as a comprehensive induction period to support the successful person in gaining the skills for the role, we can also offer training opportunities to development the individual within the role.

 

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We continue to encourage all staff to ensure that they have been double vaccinated and received their booster. We recognise that taking the vaccine provides the best defence against COVID 19 for our patients, our staff and their families.

Probationary Period This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

Starting with NELFT - NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex
