Job overview
St Monicas Hospital is seeking a friendly, hardworking and organised Ward Clerk to join a small team to support the smooth day-to-day running of our ward. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining effective communication and administrative support for both patients and staff.
St Monicas Hospital is a small, 12 bedded community inpatient unit, situated in the idyllic town of Easingwold. We have a small team of Nurses, Healthcare Support workers, Physiotherapists and Occupational therapists, with the collective aim of rehabbing patients back to their normal levels of independence, following periods of illness. The MDT works together to provide a collaborative approach to discharge planning and effective provisions of care. St Monicas Hospital is GP led, so the Ward Clerk will be required to liase with different GP practices effectively.
Candidates are required to:
- Have excellent organisational and time-keeping skills.
- Friendly and approachable manner
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Main duties of the job
- Answering telephone calls and directing enquiries appropriately.
- Greeting and assisting patients, families and visitors.
- Placing orders for ward supplies and equipment and monitoring stick levels.
- Requesting and co-ordinating patient transport.
- Liaising with all members of the Multi-disciplinary team to support effective patient care.
- Under taking of statutory training in relation to the role.
- Resolve routine problems and issues arising from contacts, making judgements on the appropriate referral of such problems where necessary.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Training and Experience
Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE Level or equivalent. Maths and English at C or above – or equivalent qualification/demonstrable experience.
- Computer literacy skills to RSA2, NVQ 2 or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Previous Office/Administrative experience in an NHS environment
- Experience (1 year minimum) Office/Administrative role
- Experience of dealing with confidential information
- Experience of cashiering duties including the handling of patient monies
