Job overview

We are looking for a registered pharmacy technician with a recognised checking accuracy qualification to join our Pharmacy Medicines Finance team as a Lead Pharmacy Technician / Senior Medicines Management Technician. 

This post will provide you with the opportunity to gain experience in medicines procurement, finance and governance whilst working with our clinical pharmacists and other members of the multidisciplinary team to make a real difference to patient safety, patient experience and satisfaction and operational flow through the Trust. 

Main duties of the job

In this combined Medicines Finance and Medicines Management Technician post you will join two of our friendly and enthusiastic pharmacy teams.

  • Within our Medicines Finance team you will work closely with the Lead Pharmacist – Medicines Finance to identify, implement and monitor medicine-related cost-saving initiatives across the Trust, support medicines savings and expenditure reporting and oversee the pharmacy technical service in this area
  • Within our patient-facing Medicines Management Technician team you will work with our Clinical Pharmacists and other members of the multidisciplinary team to optimise the use of medicines , in a variety of clinical areas at NUH.  You will improve and support the quality of patient care on admission and at discharge within a variety of clinical areas at NUH, through the provision of a professional and effective medicines management service. 
    This will include the assessment, and where suitable, re-use of patient's own medications, accurate and meticulous drug histories, thorough patient counselling, timely preparation of discharge prescriptions, one-stop dispensing and authorised self-checking, as well as supporting the ward teams with storage and security issues

To participate in rostered 7-day working which includes weekends and bank holidays. Whilst this post is commissioned to be full time, part-time hours will be considered for the correct candidate.

  • General Pharmaceutical Council Registered Pharmacy Technician

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BTEC/NVQ level 3 in pharmaceutical services
  • Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (Accredited scheme or evidence of in-house validations).
Desirable criteria
  • Medicine Management Assessments or Validations (Accredited or proof of in-house training)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clear understanding of the role of the technician in pharmacy medicines finance services
  • Previous experience in all core aspects of hospital pharmacy
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of project management, risk assessments, expenditure management or audit
  • Previous experience as an MMT

Communication

Essential criteria
  • Good verbal, written and interpersonal skills with an ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of staff and patients within and outside NUH Trust.

  • Proven evidence of judgement and prioritisation skills with regards to targets, deadlines and stock management
