Job overview

Our purpose at Health Innovation West of England is to transform lives through innovation.  We work in partnership with our local systems and stakeholders to develop a rich pipeline of useful, evidence-based innovation and to support adoption and spread of proven innovation across the systems we serve.

The primary function of the Evaluation and Insights team is to advise on and deliver real-world evaluation of innovations to understand their impact on patients, staff and the health economy.

The key responsibility of the Senior Research Evaluator (quantitative) is to deliver quantitative and mixed-methods evaluations which demonstrate the impact of innovations on systems, staff and patient experience, and outcomes.

This will involve a range of evaluation and analytical activities for complex, high-profile projects and programmes within the Health Innovation West of England’s business plan. The work may include statistical analysis (including quasi-experimental); data processing, linkage and cleaning; rapid evidence syntheses; report writing; data collection and analysis; data modelling.

Applicants with strong qualitative and quantitative skills may apply for either role. If you would like to be considered for both roles, please indicate this in your cover letter.
This is a permanent role. If you are interested in a fixed-term appointment of 6 to 12 months instead, we are willing to consider this. Please indicate in your cover letter if this is your preference.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will deliver programme and project evaluations which demonstrate the impact of innovation on systems, staff and patient experience and outcomes. These will often be quantitative or mixed-methods and will require use of inferential statistics on comparative data.
Key responsibilities include:
•    Working with the programme teams to manage the delivery of evaluation activities on time and to budget.
•    Acting as an internal expert on sources of publicly available and regionally available data which can be used to inform analysis and analytics and to share this knowledge with wider project and programme teams and stakeholders as required.
•    Linking moderate to large datasets, analysing and visualising these using a suitable package– e.g.  Excel, R, PowerBI, Tableau.
•    Designing and developing data collection templates, dashboards, outcomes frameworks, benchmarking tools and other evaluation and insight support functions as required as part of the HIWE priority programmes
•    Producing high quality documents and reports as required using a range of MS Office products (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
•    Managing the dissemination of analytics and evaluation knowledge in relevant forums and media, working with our communication team and collaborating with our partner community across academic, NHS and other stakeholders.
•    Providing guidance, advice and support to HIWE (and/or ICS partners) on evaluation tools, principles and techniques.
