Dermatology Nurse Specialist

Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic senior nurse with existing dermatology experience and knowledge to join the Dermatology nursing team within the Trust. The post will be primarily based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary with the expectation to work across site at Bassetlaw and Montagu Hospitals.
Applicants are required to have appropriate dermatology nursing knowledge, skills, and the ability to work at Band 6. A full range of dermatological treatments and procedures are offered to our patients in our busy outpatient departments and as required when inpatients on our wards.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work with the Dermatology unit Manager and Dermatology specialists to facilitate the provision of high quality, patient-focused, specialist nursing care to all patients attending the Dermatology Day Treatment Unit at Doncaster Royal Infirmary as well as the Bassetlaw and Montagu sites. All patients include adults and children.
The post holder will gain experience of the Dermatology Day Treatment provision and will be competent treating patients requiring phototherapy, photochemotherapy (PUVA), iontophoresis, patch testing and topical treatments which include paste bandaging and dressings. There is also the expectation that the post holder will commence the Non Medical Prescribing course within 18 months of commencing in post.
The post holder will utilise skills to assess and identify patient needs and implement delivery of appropriate individualised care for people with Dermatological conditions and evaluate these without supervision that is compassionate and caring.
The post holder will provide clinical, social and psychological support and advice to their patients and carers, attending the department for day treatment, enabling them, through counselling, education and health promotion to reach their optimum level of independence and health.

Essential criteria
- Demonstrate good verbal communication skills with multidisciplinary team/clients/relatives
- Demonstrate the ability to deliver educational and clinical skills training
- Evidence of ability to work independently

- Demonstrate knowledge of dealing with conflict supporting staff through mechanisms such as clinical supervision.
Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- RN with current NMC registration
- Up-to-date knowledge of professional issues
- Willing to successfully undertake Non-Medical Prescribing (or evidence of working towards)
- Willing to undertake minor skin surgery course
- Demonstrate professional post-registration development
- Willing to undertake phototherapy course
- Willing to undertake wound management course
Desirable criteria

Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven experience at Band 5
- Scope roles relevant to dermatology specialism
- Evidence of ward/department management as nurse in charge
- Development of knowledge and skills in dermatology nursing
Desirable criteria
- Experience of carrying out and monitoring PDA process
- Evidence of management responsibilities already undertaken
Organisational Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to accommodate the demands of the post with flexible working practice as required with good attendance and high standards of clinical care
- Precise and methodical working practice and demonstrate ability to work and manage the ward day to day unsupervised
Desirable criteria
- Provide evidence of supervisor/ implementation of teaching programmes for student nurses, eg preceptorship education, mentorship
- Evidence of change management and involvement in service development
