The NHS Counter Fraud Authority (NHSCFA) is the national body responsible all for matters relating to the prevention, detection and investigation of economic crime across the NHS. Aligned to the DH Health Group Counter Fraud strategy, the NHSCFA acts as the principal lead for the NHS and wider health group in counter fraud intelligence work.

We are excited to offer an opportunity for an enthusiastic, skilled and experienced Database Specialist to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will collaborate with an existing Database Specialist to support business-as-usual activities and play a crucial role in the development and maintenance of our data warehouse. This position is essential in providing foundational support to our data engineers and ensuring the integrity and availability of data across the organisation. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, innovative environment and is keen to contribute to major projects that impact the entire organisation. Main duties of the job
Collaborate with an existing Database Specialist to develop and manage our data warehouse.
Engage in both routine maintenance and complex problem-solving related to database management.
Ensure data from diverse sources is accurately integrated and maintained within the system.
Support the design and implementation of database structures that meet business requirements and align with industry best practices.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of our database strategies, incorporating agile methodologies to adapt to changing needs.
Optimising the environment to enhance performance and efficiency.

In addition to the advertised salary working in the London area will attract High-Cost Area Supplement where appropriate. Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience as a Database Administrator / Engineer or similar.
- Extensive knowledge of Enterprise Database Systems, Data Warehouse Tools, techniques and infrastructure within a public or private sector organisation.
- Extensive knowledge of SQL query language.
- Understanding and Proficiency in MS Office Program suite and others as required.
Desirable criteria
- Experience in detecting fraud using data warehousing techniques.
Specialist Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge in the following areas: Oracle Databases 19c and above/SQL Server 2019 and above/MySQL 5.6 and above Data marts (in particular star schema design) Meta-data XML & JSON SQL Data integration tools and techniques
- Knowledge of Data protection issues.
- Experience with Oracle management tools including Oracle enterprise manager and Toad (or similar).
- Experience of database tuning, process automation and delivery mechanisms e.g. query plans, indexing.
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrate knowledge in any of the following areas: Relational Databases Linux OLAP
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree or equivalent in an Information Technology, or Information Technology related field or significant equivalent experience.
