Clinical Fellow FY2/ST1 in Oncology

NHS Medical & Dental: Junior Clinical Fellow

Job overview

This advert is for two clinical fellow roles which would suit either post F2 or post IMT Resident Drs who are interested in exploring oncology as a career and gaining experience in a leadership and service development role. The roles can be full or part time and are fixed term for one year. Prior experience working in the NHS is essential and prior Oncology experience is desirable but not essential as the role is fully supported.

These roles are based in outpatient and ambulatory oncology services and will provide experience in the management of oncology patients receiving specialist treatment and in follow-up.

Each post has protected project time to lead projects in service development, which will enhance leadership skills and enhance career development in oncology or elsewhere.

Main duties of the job

The clinical fellows work alongside the oncology SpR and ACP team to provide clinical review for patients receiving systemic anti-cancer therapies and radiotherapy both in the cancer centre and the ambulatory assessment unit settings with potential for telephone triage and follow-up. There will be a detailed induction and on going support for the oncology-specific knowledge but much of the roles will utilise general medical knowledge and skills.

There will be opportunities take part in oncology clinics and radiotherapy planning to gain further insight into oncology as a specialty, this will change on a rotational basis during the year.

The Clinical Fellows will have a designated Consultant Supervisor and day to day supervision from the on call SpR & Consultant.

Working hours will fall between 08.30 and 18.00 Mon – Friday with no overnight or weekend work. The post will be based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton with possibility for travel to peripheral clinics (Eastbourne or Worthing) maximum once /week
