This is a unique managerial role, where we have developed systems that offer seamless working throughout the patient journey. We have staff that are skilled to work in admissions, all aspects of theatre, and recovery through to discharge.

The potential applicant would have experience of working in multiple areas across a surgical pathway and have demonstrable knowledge of elective care standards in addition to a desire to work in and promote the best outcomes for patients in a high-volume low complexity area.

The post holder will be expected to demonstrate excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work clinically which contributes to the quality and safety of the patients’ experience, contribute to performance management and undertake all manner of digital rostering including all aspects of staff management within the multi-disciplinary team.

Working alongside the existing Band 7 Manager you will lead service development, motivate the clinical team, manage the change process and establish positive and credible leadership as a joint asset to the Day Case Unit team.

Main duties of the job

The surgical hub, based on the St. Luke’s Hospital site in Bradford, is a completely new, state-of-the-art day case unit  that will solely deliver elective surgery to help improve waiting times for patients awaiting planned surgery. This unit is planned to deliver in the region of 5,500 day case operations a year. 

The Day Case unit will be made up of 2 theatres running 6 days a week in a facility where operations can be performed quickly and effectively in one location, improving quality and efficiency, meaning patients have shorter waits for surgery and will go home on the same day.

Has 24-hour responsibility for the day case unit.

 Has continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of patient care establishing evidence-based practice.

Responsible for the delivery of advanced nursing skills within complex patient care pathways.

Leads the clinical team by delegating work to junior staff.   Leads the management of the department in the development of care systems, protocols, and guidelines.

Responsible for the teaching, mentoring and assessment of students, trainees and professional staff, promoting a learning culture.

The post is an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, responsible for specialised nursing skills and leadership competencies promoting the effective and economical use of available resources and facilitates delivery of a balanced budget.
