An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust at our Bedford Hospital South Wing Site. 

Our rotational Occupational Therapy posts are a great opportunity to experience the acute hospital setting. You will work with a diverse range of patients and multi-disciplinary team members; giving you a great opportunity to practice and enhance your OT skills across multiple specialties.

At Bedford Hospital, we have a fantastic opportunity for Band 5 Occupational Therapists to work in our well-established supportive teams. The areas are in Neurology/Stroke, Frailty & Complex Elderly medicine, Urgent medicine, Gastro & Oncology and Orthopaedics & Surgery including amputees.

Main duties of the job

1. To perform therapeutic assessment of patients with diverse and varied physical and psychological conditions, to determine a diagnosis and formulate and deliver an appropriate individualised treatment programme.

2. To hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a specific area or ward, working without direct supervision. Access to advice and support from a senior occupational therapist is available when required. Clinical work is regularly evaluated by a senior occupational therapist.

3. To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.

4. To supervise work experience students on observational placement, ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times.

5. To contribute and participate in evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and team’s clinical practice and improve service delivery within each clinical area. Make recommendations to senior staff.

Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • Dip COT or BSc (Hons) in OT
  • HCPC registration or student
  • Evidence of Continual Professional Development maintained in a portfolio
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of the British association of Occupational Therapists and College of Occupational Therapists (BAOT/COT)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • To have a broad base of clinical experience obtained through practice education
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of working within an acute hospital setting
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working within healthcare

knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Developed working knowledge of a broad range of occupational therapy assessment and treatment techniques
  • Understanding of the need of confidentiality awareness at all times.
  • Awareness of research process and critical evaluation of evidence
  • Developed working knowledge of broad range of illnesses, injuries and conditions
  • Able to present information, written and orally, in a clear and logical manner
  • Evidence of good interpersonal skills
