Job overview

An exciting opportunity has opened for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic colleague to join our established paediatric immunology & infectious disease (PIID) team at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC), University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for an outstanding candidate to provide specialist care for the children with complex infectious diseases and immune disorders in the South-West. This is a new post in recognition of our expanding work across the region.

The successful applicant will have exciting possibilities to develop the provision of secondary and tertiary care services for children with primary and acquired immune disorders, unusual or severe infectious diseases in Bristol and the South West Region and to develop their research portfolio and clinical interests in a supportive team embedded within the University of Bristol and Bristol Vaccine Centre.

Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners and on or eligible to join the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointment Committee.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be joining our team, bringing their own interests to compliment the team in order to take the service forward. Whilst we are based at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, we provide inpatient and outpatient paediatric infectious disease and immunology services for the South-West region, in close collaboration with regional general paediatric consultants. The multidisciplinary team delivers several cross-cutting services to support local and regional patient flow and improve the quality of care through paediatric OPAT (outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy), vascular access, antimicrobial stewardship, infection prevention and control, and High Consequence Infectious Diseases. The post-holder will be expected to take a lead role in regional networks, an active role in research, and to participate in the teaching programmes of the department.

The successful applicant will participate to the team consulting rota to provide seamless paediatric infectious diseases and immunology service delivery (approx. 12 weeks per year pro rata), provide weekend specialty cover (6 weekends per year), lead specialist outpatient clinics (approx. 1-2 clinics per week pro rata) including outreach clinics at district general hospitals, participate in the BRHC antimicrobial stewardship programme and support colleagues across the region in establishing their programmes.
