Job overview
Are you looking for a rewarding Emergency Medicine post in a friendly, supportive, and truly unique environment? Come and join us in Bangor for a six or twelve month experience in a rural Emergency Department renowned for its excellent junior doctor training and strong team ethos.
Whether you're exploring EM for the first time or are committed to building a long-term career in the specialty, you’ll be welcomed into a vibrant multidisciplinary team. Our department includes:
- 13 SHO-tier doctors (F2s, ACCS trainees, GPSTs, and Junior Clinical Fellows)
- An Academic F2
- Ten Clinical Fellows in EM/PHEM
- One EM HST trainee
- Twelve Consultants
- Two Associate Specialist / Specialist Grade doctors
- An exceptional team of ENPs and ACP
You’ll be part of a supportive, hands-on clinical environment where learning and development genuinely come first.
These posts mirror deanery training roles in every meaningful way. You’ll benefit from:
- Protected teaching every Thursday afternoon within the ED
- Additional junior doctor tutorials and teaching sessions
- Your own Educational Supervisor to support your goals and guide your progression
- Up to 11 days of personal development time for relevant training opportunities
We’re committed to helping you grow—whether that’s gaining confidence in core EM skills or shaping the next steps of your career.
Main duties of the job
In terms of CV-enhancing opportunities, our clinical fellow post is ideal:
Personal development time to undertake taster days or weeks, or other educational opportunities – 11 days in 6 months. This is in addition to study leave for appropriate courses
Teaching experience is easily available: we host final-year medical students from Cardiff & Swansea University, as well as nursing and paramedic students and trainee ACPs
All doctors have the opportunity to complete an audit or quality improvement project. We are also very happy to support junior doctors wishing to gain experience in projects such as protocol design.
Weekly teaching in paid work time - three hours each week
Contribution and delivering of Morbidity and Mortality (M and M) meetings. These occur once a month - you will need to participate in one M and M during your time with us, which will include analysing and presenting data/cases
An Educational Supervisor to ensure you achieve your goals for this post
We can also offer less than full time (LTFT) posts for doctors who come to us for twelve months. You can choose between annualised hours or a LTFT weekly rota. An annualised contract is great if you want to travel or go on expeditions whilst a LTFT weekly rota suits doctors who want to combine medicine with doing something else for part of the week.
