Director of Finance

Job overview

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a leading acute healthcare provider with a budget of £750 million and a workforce of 7,500 dedicated professionals. Operating across two main hospital sites, as well as several smaller locations, we are committed to delivering outstanding patient care and innovative healthcare solutions.

In recent years, the Trust has undergone significant expansion, developing our services and investing in major capital projects. These include the construction of a cutting-edge orthopaedic ‘barn’ theatre for the region, a purpose-built teaching and accommodation building for medical students and the acquisition of a private hospital in Fordcombe. As we look to the future we are at a crucial juncture, balancing ambitious service development plans with the need to ensure financial sustainability.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Director of Finance to provide strategic leadership. This is a pivotal role in ensuring we maintain a financially sustainable course while continuing to provide high-quality care. The Director of Finance will be responsible for two key areas:

Key responsibilities

  • Developing a best-in-class finance function: Leading a high-performing, proactive finance team committed to continuous improvement. This includes ensuring robust financial systems, accurate reporting, streamlined processes and a focus on staff development.
  • Providing excellent customer service to operational and clinical teams: Ensuring financial information is translated into meaningful insights for non-financial colleagues, driving financial sustainability. The role will work closely with corporate functions such as HR and business intelligence to provide a holistic view of performance and strategic decision-making.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact in a forward-thinking NHS trust. If you are a strategic and innovative finance leader with a passion for excellence in healthcare, we welcome your application.
