An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Palliative Medicine
Consultant to join the Supportive and Palliative Care team at East
Kent Hospitals. We are looking for a dynamic, innovative forward thinking individual to join our multi-disciplinary team.
Our multi-disciplinary Supportive and Palliative Care Team are
part of the Trust Cancer Services, working closely with our
colleagues in the Acute Oncology, Oncology, Haematology,
Research, Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy Teams to support
both inpatient and outpatient pathways across the Trust.
Main duties of the job
This is a new post at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will be part of the Palliative Medicine Consultant Team and be based at Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital (QEQM) Margate but will act as Consultants responsible for the provision of specialist Palliative Care Services across Heart of Kent Hospice.
A key component of this role is to provide advanced clinical skills, leadership and expert knowledge in clinical practice. The role contributes to leading service delivery, supporting quality improvement and providing safe and effective specialist level palliative care assessment and advice to adult in patients with life-limiting illnesses or those undergoing curative treatment of serious conditions with complex symptoms, supporting our core services in the Trust.

Qualifications and training
Essential criteria
- Basic Medical Qualification e.g. MBBS
- MRCP of MRCGP or other Oncology Specialist Training
- GMC Registration
- UK CCT in Palliative Care (Or within 6 months)
Desirable criteria
- Diploma or MSC in Oncology
- MA in Ethics
- MD/PhD in a related area
- Teaching
- Adv communication training/courses
Skills and experience
Essential criteria
- Palliative Care experience
- Senior level Multidisciplinary team working
- Teaching experience
- Time Management & prioritisation
- Ability to take full responsibility for clinical care at consultant level
