Job overview

We have a part time 0.2 WTE Band 7 post for Optometrist with previous clinical experience

We are looking for somebody with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a positive and innovative approach to service development and a commitment to working within a multi-disciplinary team

Band 7 Optometrist post provides an exciting opportunity to work in CLCH community Paediatric Eye Service in the Borough of Barnet.

The post holder will be a member of the dynamic multi-disciplinary Orthoptic/Optometrist team, working with a mixed caseload of patients

Applicants should have 2 years’ experience 

You will be responsible for the assessment and management of children

You will be required to communicate complex needs and provide training to junior staff.

You should have good organisational skills, a commitment to multi-disciplinary working and an understanding of working alongside services

Main duties of the job

  • To work closely with other Orthoptists and Health Care Professionals in order to deliver a comprehensive range of core optometric services and a range of extended role services (dependent upon experience) to the highest standards of quality and care
  • To work as an autonomous practitioner in providing optometric assessment, diagnosis and management of patients of all ages, ranging from babies to the elderly and those who have varying communication skills.
  • To participate in the delivery of certain more complex specialist optometric services that meets the changing needs of the Directorate and other outside agencies.
  • To undertake administrative duties as required by the role undertaken.
  • To participate in clinical audit and research 
  • To provide teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate levels for various disciplines within ophthalmology (ophthalmologists, medical students, ophthalmic nurses, Orthoptists and other health professionals).

Education/Qualification

Essential criteria
  • BSc (Hons) Optometry (or equivalent).
  • Registration with General Optical Council
  • Further/ higher professional qualifications or an interest in gaining further/ higher professional qualifications.
  • Evidence of on-going continuing education and training as required by the General Optical Council
  • Minimum of 1-2 years post registration experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of post registration experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Previous hospital optometry experience, beneficial not essential. Accurate paediatric refractions (cyclopentolate and non- cyclopentolate) with an understanding of appropriate prescribing
  • Good understanding of professional issues and NHS policy initiatives e.g. voucher regulations.
  • A portfolio of career long learning, experience and education.
  • Presentations to colleagues/ peers
  • Primary research skills.
  • Teaching to fellow health professionals
Desirable criteria
  • Interest in clinical research and audit
