Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered nurse to join the band 6 team in Oncology Same Day Emergency Care as a Deputy Ward Manager. Oncology Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) is an assessment area for patients under oncology who have become unwell as a result of their disease or treatment. Patients are referred to SDEC and as the band 6 in charge will access over the phone if they are suitable to attend. SDEC also see's patients under Haematology and Renal for nurse led procedures/infusions/transfusions. Patients may require admission from SDEC to the Specialist Receiving Unit and appropriate escalation will be required.
SDEC is looking for an experienced Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager to join the team. Relevant experience required.
Main duties of the job
You must have excellent communication skills and confident in escalating issues where appropriate. It is essential you have previous experience in co-ordinating an area as nurse in charge. You must be able to prioritise the care of the patients and be confident in dealing with the multidisciplinary team.
As well as working as nurse in charge you must also be able to support junior members of the team and take on band 6 management responsibilities.

The post holder will act as a deputy to the Ward Manager and they will be required to;
- Regularly take charge of the unit
- Hold the referral phone throughout the shift
- Ensure members of the team are delivering high quality care
- Answer datix's
- Be an effective leader/ role model
- Provide direct clinical care
