Job overview
Applications are invited for a substantive Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with a dedicated focus on Labour Ward Leadership and a special interest in simulation-based training. We seek candidates with established expertise in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, coupled with a demonstrated commitment to enhancing patient safety, optimizing team performance, and advancing training through simulation methodologies.
The successful applicant will participate in a 1:14 on-call rota, lead Labour Ward management during designated "hot weeks," and provide emergency gynaecology cover. This position entails active involvement in managing complex obstetric cases, leading multidisciplinary teams, and maintaining the highest standards of care within the delivery suite. Additionally, the post holder will contribute to general obstetrics and gynaecology clinics, elective and emergency theatres, and simulation-based teaching programs.
Main duties of the job
This is RCOG approved post.
As the Labour Ward Lead, the appointed consultant will oversee the daily operations of the obstetric unit during allocated hot weeks. During this period, the consultant will deliver direct, consultant-led care across the unit, with other clinical duties temporarily suspended to ensure a dedicated focus on obstetric care. Emergency gynaecology cover during these weeks will be provided by a separate consultant.
The role also encompasses responsibility for the development and enhancement of the simulation training program. This includes designing and delivering multidisciplinary simulation sessions aimed at improving clinical outcomes and fostering cohesive team performance in high-risk obstetric scenarios.
This post offers 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), with the flexibility to develop additional roles and responsibilities through mutual agree.
