Job overview

The Maintenance Operative (Painter) plays a vital role within the Estates & Facilities team, supporting the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality environments across the Trust's estate. The post holder is responsible for providing planned, reactive, and emergency painting and decorating services across a diverse range of healthcare and support settings. This includes both internal and external building fabric maintenance, supporting service delivery and contributing to a therapeutic and safe environment for patients, service users, staff, and visitors.

 

The post holder will be responsible for carrying out a range of skilled- and semi-skilled duties.  Progressive training and experience in all elements of trade skills will enable the post holder to reach levels of flexibility and competence over a wide range of building and engineering works.

 

On a day-to-day basis, the Maintenance Operative (Painter) will organize their own workload and, as directed, assist when required.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake a range of painting and decorating tasks to a high professional standard across clinical and non-clinical areas.
  • Prepare surfaces through cleaning, filling, sanding, and other appropriate methods to ensure the correct finish.
  • Apply various paint systems, stains, and specialist coatings (e.g. epoxy, rust-inhibiting, textured, and anti-slip finishes) using brush, roller, and spray techniques.
  • Remove and replace wall coverings including vinyls, paper, and specialist finishes.
  • Carry out minor plaster repairs, dry-lining taping and jointing, and make-good finishes.
  • Execute specialist tasks such as signwriting, mural design, line marking for roadways and internal floors, and glazing repairs as necessary.

    ·         Work in full compliance with Health & Safety regulations, COSHH, Trust procedures, and industry best practices.

    ·         Erect safety signage and barriers and ensure safe use and storage of tools, equipment, and materials.

    ·         Operate access equipment, including tower scaffolds and mobile elevated platforms (MEWPs), following appropriate training and certification.

    ·         Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment at all times
